Century-old cemetery emerges amid heavy rainfall and flooding in Akre

AKRE, January 23 — An old cemetery has recently been unearthed in the village of Goranke in Akre’s Girdasin sub-district following heavy rains and flooding in the area.

Approximately 10 graves, dating back a century, were revealed following heavy rains and flooding in the area.

Hiwa Shamal, director of Akre’s archaeology directorate, informed 964media that approximately 10 graves were discovered by a villager who reported the finding to authorities. In response, an expert committee was assembled to investigate the site.

Shamal stated the committee’s inquiry led to the identification of an old cemetery along the river. He further underscored the need for prompt excavations and careful gathering of detailed information regarding the unearthed graves.
