Iraqi parliament speaker meets US envoy to discuss elections, security

BAGHDAD — Iraqi Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani met Thursday with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Daniel Rubinstein to discuss bilateral ties and the upcoming parliamentary elections, according to a statement from the speaker’s office.

The two also discussed Iraq’s security situation and the importance of maintaining stability ahead of the vote, as political blocs prepare for the next election cycle.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, received today, Thursday, Mr. Daniel Rubinstein, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Iraq.

Mr. Daniel Rubinstein extended his congratulations to Speaker Al-Mashhadani on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, wishing well for Muslims and Iraq during this holiday.

The meeting emphasized ways to enhance and develop bilateral relations between the two countries in the political and economic fields, and to promote investment in a way that serves the interests of both nations.

The meeting also discussed the security situation and the importance of stability in Iraq, and its impact on the upcoming parliamentary elections, which political blocs are preparing to contest.
