Hot weather to persist, with thundery showers possible in the north
BAGHDAD — Iraq will stay hot through the coming days with clear skies in the center and south and a chance of light thunderstorms in the far north, the Meteorological Organization said Sunday.
Sunday’s conditions will be sunny in central and southern regions, with partly cloudy skies and possible light thundery showers north of Duhok and Erbil governorates. Temperatures will hold near Saturday’s levels, staying hot during the day and turning more moderate overnight and in the early morning. Northwesterly winds will blow at 20 to 30 km/h, with limited wind activity in parts of central Iraq raising light dust. Visibility will range between eight and 10 kilometers, dropping to five to seven kilometers in dusty areas.
Monday will be clear in central and southern Iraq with some cloud in the north, and temperatures falling slightly. Sunny weather is expected nationwide Tuesday, with northwesterly winds strengthening to as much as 40 km/h in central and southern areas and raising dust that could cut visibility to between three and five kilometers. Wednesday and Thursday will see generally fair weather with some cloud and strengthening winds at times, with temperatures rising slightly in central and northern regions later in the week.
