Woman dies after gas cylinder explosion in Ranya

RANYA — A woman who was injured in a gas cylinder explosion at her home in Ranya, part of Sulaymaniyah’s Raparin Administration, died Monday after four days in the hospital, a relative confirmed to 964media.

The explosion occurred last Thursday when a gas leak ignited a fire, damaging household equipment and causing severe burns. The woman was initially treated at a hospital in Ranya before being transferred to Erbil for further care.

“Today, Monday, my aunt passed away in a hospital in Erbil,” her nephew, Awder Sardar, told 964media.

He added that his aunt was 52 years old, a housewife, and a mother of four. Her children were unharmed in the incident.

In a separate incident on Saturday, a house fire broke out in the Hasan Awa area of Zakho Administration, Duhok Governorate, when a gas cylinder leaked and ignited while a woman was preparing food for iftar. The fire caused material damage but no injuries.
