Gas leak causes house fire in Zakho

ZAKHO — A house fire broke out in the Hasan Awa area of Zakho Administration, Duhok governorate, after a gas cylinder leaked and ignited while a woman was preparing food for iftar, officials said. Iftar is the meal that Muslims eat to break their fast at sunset during Ramadan.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Saturday, causing only material damage with no injuries reported.

Avindar Izat, spokesperson for Zakho Civil Defense, told 964media that the fire was contained and resulted solely from a gas leak rather than an explosion.

This marks the first house fire recorded in Zakho during Ramadan. Civil defense data also indicate that three vehicles have been completely burned in separate incidents since the start of the month.
