Elderly man killed in hit-and-run in Duhok

DUHOK — An 82-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday afternoon while crossing a main road near the Duhok Customs Directorate, according to emergency officials.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on the busy traffic-lit road in front of the directorate.

Haysem Barbari, spokesperson for Duhok’s 122 emergency health center, told 964media, “An elderly man was hit by a speeding vehicle while crossing the street and died immediately at the scene.”

The victim’s body was taken to the Duhok forensic medical department. Authorities say his family, who are from Amedi, have been notified and are on their way to retrieve the body.
