Project aims to combat desertification

University students plant 150 seedlings in Tal Afar city

TAL AFAR, October 12 — Students of the Arabic Language Department at Tal Afar University in Nineveh governorate planted 150 different tree seedlings as part of a campaign titled, “For a More Beautiful City.” The campaign included species such as pine trees, acacias, and jacarandas.

Tal Afar University, established in 2010, houses three colleges: Nursing, Agriculture, and Elementary Education, which includes the Arabic Language and Mathematics departments.

Rahma Falah, an instructor and campaign supervisor, shared:

Under the slogan “For a More Beautiful City,” evening students from the Arabic Language Department in the College of Elementary Education at Tal Afar University conducted a campaign to plant seedlings and flowers [around] the university building, which is still under construction.

The campaign involved planting 150 different seedlings, along with various flowers. Some of the seedlings included pine trees, acacias, and jacarandas.

The Tal Afar Cultural League also contributed by providing a number of seedlings to the campaign, which was carried out through the students’ own efforts.

The campaign’s goal is to combat desertification and climate change in the region, beautify the university, and increase green spaces.
