Warehouse raid

Authorities seize nearly five tons of smuggled animal liver in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH — Authorities in Sulaymaniyah have confiscated nearly five tons of frozen animal liver smuggled into the Kurdistan Region, local officials said.

Shorsh Kamal, a representative of the Veterinary Department in the Sulaymaniyah District Committees, told 964 that officials acted on intelligence regarding a large cache stored in an industrial warehouse.

“After being alerted to the presence of nearly five tons of animal liver, we seized the entire quantity inside the warehouse,” Kamal said.

Kamal confirmed that the liver had been illegally smuggled into the Kurdistan Region and noted that local authorities notified the shipment’s owner. The seized consignment includes 250 packs of frozen animal liver, with some packs labeled “Made in Mongolia.”

This operation comes just a day after Sulaymaniyah officials confiscated 60 tons of expired frozen meat deemed unfit for consumption. Veterinary officials said the meat was slated for sale during Ramadan.
