Reports $30,000 loss
Owner says he tried to save truck lost in Erbil gas station blaze
ERBIL — A truck was destroyed in a fire Saturday morning at the Lapp gas station in Erbil, where six employees were injured and several vehicles burned, according to local sources.
The fire, which broke out in the city’s Fermanbaran neighborhood, damaged two trucks, a taxi, and the station’s storage area before civil defense teams brought it under control. Thick smoke was seen rising from the site.
Truck owner Abdul Samad Mohammed told 964media he was nearby when the fire started. “I came to save the truck, but I couldn’t, and it caught fire,” he said.
Mohammed said he regularly parked his truck at the station and had not expected such an incident. “The losses amount to $30,000. We hope to be compensated,” he added.
The six injured workers were transported to Erbil Emergency Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and civil defense officials said an investigation has been launched.
