Fire contained after blaze at Erbil gas station injures six
ERBIL — A large fire broke out Saturday morning at the Lapp gas station in Erbil’s Fermanbaran neighborhood, injuring six workers and causing damage to nearby homes.
Civil defense teams contained the fire with the participation of 10 units, though crews remained on-site for follow-up operations. One of the injured workers suffered severe burns, and all six were taken to the hospital for treatment, eyewitnesses told 964media.
A vehicle and two trucks along with the station’s fuel storage tanks were also burned. The explosion shattered windows of nearby houses.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and civil defense authorities have launched an investigation.
Local resident Haji Rizgar told 964media that the explosion was extremely loud.
He said the explosion broke the windows of surrounding homes and caused property damage. He called on authorities to prohibit the construction of fuel stations within residential areas, citing the danger they pose to residents.
