Iraqi security forces engage unidentified drone near Baghdad’s Green Zone
BAGHDAD — Iraqi security forces engaged an unidentified drone near Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, causing a loud noise heard across the capital, the head of Iraq’s Security Media Cell told the Iraqi News Agency.
The official said the sound resulted from security forces responding to the drone near the Green Zone, which houses government institutions and foreign diplomatic missions.
The Security Media Cell confirmed that the drone’s identity was unknown and that security forces had taken action against it. No further details were provided about the aircraft’s origin or the outcome of the engagement.
Earlier, photographs circulated showing white trails across Baghdad’s sky, accompanied by unverified reports of unidentified objects overhead and sounds of explosions in the capital.
The Security Media Cell did not report any casualties or damage in its initial statement.
