Thunderstorms in the north and center as Basra reaches 41°C
BAGHDAD — Scattered thunderstorms are forecast across parts of northern and central Iraq and the Kurdistan Region on Friday, while the south stays mostly clear with highs of 41°C, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.
Temperatures will be close to Thursday’s, mild during the day and cooler overnight.
Erbil is forecast at 31°C with a low of 18°C and thunderstorms, and Sulaymaniyah at 29°C with a low of 17°C. Duhok will be partly cloudy at 28°C, with a low of 18°C. Kirkuk is expected at 33°C with a low of 21°C, and Nineveh at 31°C with a low of 18°C and thunderstorms.
Baghdad is expected at 35°C with a low of 25°C and a chance of rain. Salah al-Din will reach 35°C and Anbar 33°C, both with thunderstorms, and Diyala 36°C. Karbala is forecast at 35°C, Najaf, Babil and Diwaniyah 36°C, Wasit 38°C, Muthanna 39°C, Maysan 40°C, and Basra and Dhi Qar 41°C.
Winds will be light to moderate northwesterly at 10 to 20 km/h, with calm and variable periods in the center and north. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km in rain.
