Riders love the relief
Tuk-tuk driver installs a cooler to beat the heat
HIT, August 8 — With soaring temperatures across Iraq, an enterprising tuk-tuk driver in Anbar’s Hit has managed to double his ridership by installing a small cooler to provide passengers with some relief during their trips.
Driver Harith Jolan spoke to 964:
The hot weather prevents people from going out into the streets. To encourage them to travel during the afternoon hours, I installed this small cooler.
The idea cost me around 60,000 Iraqi dinars. I replaced the traditional canopy with a car radiator fan and attached the cooler to the rear window of the tuk-tuk, turning it on.
The number of customers has doubled, and I’ve been able to increase my income. I now transport around 20 to 35 customers daily.
