Over a ton of potato chips returned to Iran from Kele border

RAPARIN – The Kele border checkpoint within the Raperin Administration recently rejected and returned 1,200 kilograms of potato chips to Iran following a failed health inspection and concerns regarding the products’ expiration dates.

Taha Mohammed, the spokesperson for the Raperin Health Directorate, told to 964media that the Food Inspection Unit at the Kele border is tasked with the role of approving any food items entering the Kurdistan Region. “Our team, consisting of eight to nine employees, is dedicated to performing both physical and chemical inspections on all foodstuffs and materials arriving at the border daily,” Mohammed stated.

He further noted that a variety of food items are routinely sent back to Iran each day due to their unsuitability for consumption.

Located in the northeast of the Pshdar district, the Kele border has been a conduit for informal trade since 1992.

“The bulk of food items deemed unsuitable are returned to Iran for appropriate action and possible compensation, rather than being discarded,” Mohammed said.
