100 days unpaid
Street workers in Raparin protest over unpaid salaries
RANYA—In a public show of discontent, street workers within the Raparin Administration convened in front of the Ranya Public Garden, protesting against the non-payment of their salaries.
These workers, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of public spaces, reported a delay in receiving their wages, amounting to 300,000 Iraqi dinars ($200), for more than 100 days.
One affected individual expressed the severity of their situation, stating, “I haven’t been paid for three months. I’m now 600,000 dinars in debt and facing a critical financial crisis.”
The protesters attributed the delay in salary payments to the government’s failure to provide the necessary funds to the contracting company tasked with upkeep. The company has, in turn, not paid out wages of workers.
This isn’t the first time workers in the Raparin Administration have taken to strikes as a form of protest. Previously, they halted waste collection services for several months to draw attention to similar grievances.
