Foreign traveler caught at Iraqi border crossing with counterfeit bills
AL-QAIM — Iraq’s Border Ports Authority apprehended a foreign traveler carrying counterfeit money at the Al-Qaim border crossing in northwestern Anbar on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the authority, the individual was caught with 33.25 million Iraqi dinars (approximately $25,000 USD) and $5,000 USD in forged bills.
Border officials arrested the foreign national and the seized the counterfeit currency before filing of an official report with the Al-Qaim Customs Police Station for legal proceedings.
The statement further highlighted ongoing efforts to conduct frequent and thorough inspections in an effort to prevent the smuggling of prohibited materials through the country’s border crossings.
