Maysan and Basra at 47°C with dust in the centre and south

BAGHDAD — Maysan and Basra are forecast at 47°C on Friday, with gusts raising dust across central and southern Iraq, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Dhi Qar is expected at 46°C, Muthanna 45°C, Wasit and Diwaniyah 44°C, Karbala and Najaf 43°C, Baghdad, Diyala and Babil 42°C and Salah al-Din 40°C. In the north, Kirkuk and Nineveh are forecast at 39°C, Erbil 38°C, Sulaymaniyah 37°C and Duhok 35°C. Temperatures stay close to Thursday’s.

Skies will be clear with scattered cloud in the centre and north and partly cloudy in the south. Northwesterly winds of 10 to 20 km/h will strengthen during the day in the east of the centre and south, gusting to about 40 km/h and raising light dust, particularly in desert areas. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km where dust is blowing.
