Rain in central Iraq as Basra reaches 42°C

BAGHDAD — Scattered rain is forecast across central Iraq on Thursday, with light showers possible in the north later in the day, as temperatures rise slightly in the centre and south and Basra reaches 42°C, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Baghdad is expected at 34°C with light morning showers. Erbil is forecast at 31°C and Sulaymaniyah 29°C, both with a chance of rain, and Duhok 30°C. Nineveh is expected at 32°C, Kirkuk and Anbar 33°C, Salah al-Din 34°C, Karbala, Babil and Diyala 35°C, Najaf 36°C, Diwaniyah 38°C, Wasit 39°C, Muthanna 40°C, Maysan and Dhi Qar 41°C and Basra 42°C.

Winds are light to moderate northwesterly at 10 to 20 km/h, with calm and variable periods in the north. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km in rain and thunderstorms.
