Turkish warplanes conduct airstrike near Shiladze district center
SHILADZE, January 24 – Turkish warplanes conducted an airstrike near the center of Shiladze district in Duhok on Wednesday, raising concerns about attacks in civilian areas within the Kurdistan Region.
The strike, which occurred about one kilometer from the district’s center, did not result in any casualties. However, locals reported that the bombardment and its loud impact caused windows to rattle throughout the area.
Farhad Nerwayi, a Shiladze resident, described the event to 964media: “At 8:15 a.m., we heard a very loud noise that shook our house. The bombing was alarmingly close to our community and homes this time.”
A security source in Shiladze confirmed the airstrike’s proximity to the district center to 964media, noting it caused a significant disturbance.
Turkey has ramped up its bombing campaign across the Kurdistan Region in recent years as it pursues PKK fighters.
The head of Shiladze sub-district has been contacted for comment.
