NAJAF- The National Security Service announced the seizure of more than 200,000 Captagon pills hidden inside tire frames and rice bags and the dismantling of an international drug trafficking network operating between Baghdad and Najaf.

A statement by the National Security Service in Najaf provided that after obtaining judicial approvals, the NSS teams managed to dismantle an international drug network, arresting three of its members and seizing 200,000 Captagon pills in Baghdad.

“The operation was conducted following intelligence efforts and tracking the network’s routes, which revealed innovative smuggling methods by concealing the drugs inside truck tire frames and rice bags to distribute them to dealers,” the statement added.

Earlier this month, the Second Baghdad International Conference on Combating Drugs concluded with key recommendations and acknowledged that Iraq has become a hub for drug traffickers in the region.  The conference included participants from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Iran, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, the Arab Interior Ministers Council, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
