Qrnaqaw health center in Sulaymaniyah governor ate to reopen after flood damage

QANDIL – The Qirnaqaw health center in the Qandil area of Sulaymaniyah governorate is set to reopen after suffering significant flood damage several years ago. The facility, which previously lost essential medical equipment, will now offer primary health care services.

Taha Mohammed, spokesperson for the Raparin Health Directorate, informed 964media, “The health center was severely damaged and only the building structure remained. It has now been restored and prepared to serve the community.” The renovation was undertaken by the health directorate in the Raparin area.

Mohammed emphasized that the center will only provide primary health services, stating, “As a primary health center, it will only conduct basic health services. Surgical procedures and treatment for severe cases will not be provided.”

The center had staff members who were reassigned due to the long closure, which lasted years. Plans are underway to reassign staff back to the center to resume operations.

A previous investigation revealed that for more than a decade, there was only one health center in the Qandil area. Dilsher Ibrahim, co-chair of the Qandil Municipality, told 964media, “The only health center in the village of Bokreskan, known as the Shahid Haji Ahmad Hospital, serves 60 villages in the Qandil area.”

Ibrahim added that mobile health teams visit the villages two to three times a month to provide necessary medical services to residents. According to Ibrahim, the hospital and mobile teams are managed by the municipal council and rely entirely on municipal revenue and donations to meet their needs. Patients requiring more advanced care are referred to hospitals in Pshdar and Ranya, supported by the Ranya Health Directorate.

Last year, around 4,000 citizens received free medical treatment at Shahid Haji Ahmad Hospital, according to data provided to 964media.
