Four storekeepers held over copper theft at Diwaniyah textile factory

DIWANIYAH — Four warehouse keepers at the state-owned Diwaniyah Textile Factory have been arrested over the alleged theft of tons of copper from its spare materials store, the Federal Commission of Integrity said.

A team from its Diwaniyah investigation office examined information that copper had been taken from the warehouse, and audits and administrative records produced four arrest and search warrants from an investigative judge handling integrity cases, the commission said. All four were detained along with documents and records, and presented to the judge.

It is the third Diwaniyah case this year. The commission arrested 13 people in late July, including officials and lawyers, over forged documents used to obtain public loans and residential land worth more than 4 billion dinars, and days later issued about 30 warrants over contracts and procurement at the same municipal directorate, naming its current head and five predecessors.
