Wind turbine project to generate 100 MW of electricity in Soran

ERBIL, August 9 — A new wind turbine project launched on Tuesday in Erbil’s Soran district aiming to produce 100 megawatts of electricity, with officials calling the initative the first of its kind in Iraq and the Middle East.

The project is being executed by a German company.

Arduan Ibrahim, Director of Soran Electricity, told 964: “This project will be the sole electricity generation project through wind power in the Middle East. The project’s cost amounts to 235 billion Iraqi dinars, and the completion period is estimated to be 18 months.”

“With the implementation of this project, Soran’s electricity supply will be stabilized, eliminating gas waste that occurs in other power plants.”
