BASRA — Three people were killed and a fourth injured Thursday in a violent collision between a sedan and a stationary excavator on the road leading to the paper plant in Al-Deir district, north of Basra.
Eyewitnesses told 964media the crash occurred when the sedan slammed into the excavator, which was parked along the roadside. The impact killed three passengers and left another seriously injured.
Ambulances rushed to the scene and transported the victims to nearby hospitals.
Security forces arrived to secure the area and ease traffic congestion, while a traffic police unit launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
