Border guards stop smugglers with thousands of Captagon pills

SULAYMANIYAH, August 8 — Border guards in Sulaymaniyah foiled an attempt to smuggle nearly 3,500 Captagon pills from Iran into Iraq on Sunday. The smuggler managed to escape back into Iranian territory, leaving the illicit cargo behind.

A statement by the First Region Border Guard read:

In line with the directives of the commanding officer of the border forces to curb infiltration and smuggling operations, and under the direct supervision of the commanding officer of the First Region Borders, a patrol belonging to the second battalion of the 21st Brigade confiscated 3,450 Captagon pills that the owner intended to bring from Iranian territory into Iraqi territory. Upon being spotted by the patrol at the border strip, the smuggler abandoned the pills and fled into Iranian territory.
