Thunderstorms in central Iraq as Baghdad holds at 33°C

BAGHDAD — Thunderstorms are forecast for Baghdad, Diyala, Anbar, Karbala and Babil on Monday, with rain possible in Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Wasit and Najaf, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Baghdad is expected at 33°C with a low of 19°C. Sulaymaniyah and Duhok are forecast at 28°C and Erbil 31°C, while Basra is hottest at 41°C, Dhi Qar 40°C and Maysan 39°C. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km in rain and storms.

Cloud covers much of the country on Tuesday with thunderstorms in the north, as temperatures climb to 36°C in Baghdad and 43°C in Basra and Dhi Qar. Rain remains possible in the centre and north on Wednesday before temperatures dip and then rise again late in the week.
