Police arrest ‘Billion Thief’, recover stolen cash from currency exchange

SAMAWAH — Muthanna police announced Sunday the arrest of a suspect dubbed the “Billion Thief” and the full recovery of around 1 billion dinars ($653,600) stolen from a currency exchange shop in Samawah.

Surveillance camera footage circulating on social media appeared to show the suspect breaking into the shop, smashing security cameras and loading bundles of cash into a cardboard box on his motorcycle. Police said the arrest was made within 72 hours, though they provided no further details about the suspect or the circumstances of his capture.
