BAGHDAD — Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in southern Iraq and isolated parts of the center and north on Saturday, with scattered showers through Wednesday, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said. Skies will be partly cloudy across most of the country, and temperatures will stay close to Friday’s, when highs were forecast at 35°C in Basra and Dhi Qar and 31°C in Baghdad.

Sunday will stay partly cloudy, with isolated light showers in the center, where temperatures will dip slightly. Monday will bring light rain to scattered areas, mainly in the center and north, with a chance of showers in the south. The center and south will be mostly clear on Tuesday, while the north may see more light rain. Wednesday will be partly cloudy nationwide, with isolated light showers possible in the north and south and little change in temperatures.

On Saturday, northeasterly winds in the center will be light to moderate at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour. The north will see light, variable winds of 5 to 10 km/h with spells of calm, and the south light to moderate, humid southeasterly winds. Northwesterly winds may top 25 km/h in eastern parts of the center and south on Tuesday. Visibility on Saturday will fall to 5 to 7 kilometers in morning haze and pollution and to 3 to 5 km in rain and thunderstorms, improving to 8 to 10 km over the following days except where it rains.
