Badr leader warns of regional conflict over ‘threats’ to Khamenei

BAGHDAD- – Badr Organization Secretary-General Hadi Al-Amiri voiced strong support for Iraq’s senior religious authorities on Thursday, praising their condemnation of what he described as “Zionist-American attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran” and warnings against threats targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“We declare our unwavering support for our legitimate leaders from among the supreme religious authorities and the pious scholars of the nation in this historic and significant stance,” Al-Amiri said in a statement, describing recent “threats” as a “serious and unprecedented escalation that could drag the region into an uncalculated conflict.”

On June 17, Trump said that during the Israel-Iran conflict, he knew Khamenei’s exact location and chose not to authorize a strike that could have killed him. “I saved him from a very ugly and ignominious death,” Trump said. He also dismissed Khamenei’s post-conflict declarations of victory, saying, “Why would the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’… say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the war with Israel, when he knows his statement is a lie?”

This remarks led several Iranian senior clerics to issue religious rulings labeling U.S. President Donald Trump a ‘muharib’ — a term in Islamic law denoting one who wages war against God and society.

In Iraq, the office of Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani published two statements during the Israel-Iran conflict, condemning what it described as “the military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” warning of grave regional consequences if the conflict escalates.

“The Supreme Religious Authority in Najaf strongly reiterates its condemnation of the ongoing military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and any threat targeting its highest religious and political leadership,” the second statement read.

Sistani is Iraq’s most influential Shia cleric and one of the highest-ranking marjas in the Shia world.

Statement from Badr Organization leader Hadi Al-Amiri:

At a time when we express our deep pride, appreciation, and gratitude for the positions of our esteemed religious authorities—may their noble presence endure—in condemning and denouncing the Zionist-American attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran, and their clear warnings and condemnation of the rhetoric of provocation and threats directed at the position and life of His Eminence the Leader, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei (may his shadow be prolonged), we declare our unwavering support for our legitimate leaders from among the supreme religious authorities and the pious scholars of the nation in this historic and significant stance.

As we are guided by their positions, we draw inspiration from the revolution of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in steadfastness on the path of truth and in absolute rejection of imposition, tyranny, and falsehood—regardless of the consequences.

We also affirm that these irresponsible threats represent a serious and unprecedented escalation that could drag the region into an uncalculated conflict, in addition to being a blatant assault on the will of the peoples and the destiny of nations.

We ask Almighty God to protect our religious authorities and leaders, prolong their lives, and crush those who wish them harm.
