Religious leaders play ‘vital role’ in combating extremism, says Al-Sudani

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met Wednesday with members of the Higher Committee of the Iraqi Fiqh Council to discuss national stability, according to a statement from his media office. Al-Sudani stressed the “vital role” of religious leaders in promoting moderation in public discourse, rejecting violence and extremism, and combating corruption.”

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Wednesday, with several members of the Higher Committee of the Iraqi Fiqh Council.

The meeting included a review of the current situation in the country, as well as the government’s efforts to enhance security, social, and economic stability, and its ongoing work to address the demands and aspirations of the Iraqi people.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized the vital role of religious leaders in promoting moderation in public discourse, rejecting violence and extremism, and combating corruption. He noted the significant progress Iraq is witnessing across various sectors and provinces.

Iraqi Fiqh Council’s delegation commended the government’s role in implementing service and development projects. They praised the reconstruction and development campaigns witnessed in Baghdad and other provinces over the past two years, as well as the successful organization of the Arab Summit and Development Summit in Baghdad, which have reinforced Iraq’s regional and international standing.
