Child injured in Tuz Khurmatu hit-and-run as family pursues legal action

TUZ KHURMATU – A child was injured Tuesday afternoon in a hit-and-run incident in the Komari neighborhood of Tuz Khurmatu as students were returning home from school.

Surveillance footage shows a vehicle speeding into a crowded area before striking the child and fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

“The driver did not stop and continued driving,” said the child’s uncle, Omar Qasim, who confirmed that the family has filed a legal complaint. “The vehicle was clearly captured on camera.”

The annual rate of traffic incidents in Tuz Khurmatu district has seen an increase, with more than 40 fatalities and over 100 injuries recorded in 2024, a 40% rise compared to 2023, according to local traffic authorities.
