Rain and thunder forecast for parts of Iraq as temperatures dip
BAGHDAD — Light rain and thunderstorms are expected in scattered parts of the Kurdistan Region on Saturday, with partly to mostly cloudy skies across much of Iraq, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.
Unsettled weather will continue, with partly cloudy skies turning cloudy in places, the organization said. Light showers, at times with thunder, are possible in scattered parts of the north and in limited areas of central and southern Iraq.
Temperatures are expected to fall slightly from Friday in central and northern Iraq and by several degrees in the south. Conditions will be mild and autumnal, turning hot during the day and cooler at night.
Forecast highs are 24 C in Sulaymaniyah, 29 C in Erbil and Duhok, 30 C in Kirkuk and Nineveh, 35 C in Baghdad, 36 C in Najaf and Babil, 37 C in Wasit and Diwaniyah, 38 C in Maysan and Muthanna, 40 C in Dhi Qar and 41 C in Basra.
Winds will be light to moderate and variable at 10-20 kilometers per hour, with periods of calm. Visibility is expected at 6-8 kilometers, falling to 4-6 kilometers in areas with rain and thunderstorms.
