Broader pattern

Iraq border forces arrest six for illegal entry attempt in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH — Iraq’s Border Guard Command announced the arrest of six foreign nationals who allegedly attempted to cross the border illegally into the Kurdistan Region and Iraq via Sulaymaniyah governorate.

In a statement, the command said the individuals were detained by the 2nd Battalion of the 21st Border Brigade during two separate operations. The detainees reportedly tried to bypass legal entry procedures to smuggle themselves into the country.

“The legal process for these individuals has begun, and they will be handed over to the relevant authorities,” the Border Guard Command said.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of illegal border crossings by foreign nationals seeking to enter the Kurdistan Region and Iraq for work without proper residency permits. Several similar arrests have been reported in recent weeks.

Laat week, Iraqi border forces arrested 10 individuals of various nationalities accused of attempting to illegally enter the Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq through Sulaymaniyah Governorate, the Ministry of Interior announced.
