Iraqi border forces arrest 10 foreign nationals in alleged illegal crossing

SULAYMANIYAH – Iraqi border forces have arrested 10 individuals of various Asian nationalities accused of attempting to illegally enter the Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq through the Sulaymaniyah governorate, the Ministry of Interior announced Monday.

In a statement, the ministry said that “as part of efforts to combat illegal crossings and smuggling,” the 2nd Battalion of the 21st Border Brigade apprehended the individuals in separate operations along the Sulaymaniyah border. The detainees are in custody and legal procedures are underway, according to the statement.

The ministry did not specify the detainees’ countries of origin.
