Iraqi security forces seize 3,000 tons of spoiled rice

BASRA — Iraq’s National Security Service announced Thursday that it had seized 3,000 tons of spoiled rice stored in a warehouse in Babil and uncovered a factory involved in industrial fraud in Basra.

In a statement, the NSS confirmed, “We have seized 3,000 tons of spoiled rice in Babel and shut down a factory engaged in industrial fraud in Basra.”

Security units prevented large quantities of unsafe food from reaching local markets in both governorates. In Babil, officers discovered a large warehouse containing thousands of tons of spoiled rice that was being prepared for sale. Meanwhile, in Basra, authorities uncovered a factory that was counterfeiting commercial labels to distribute fraudulent goods.

The seized items have been referred to the relevant authorities for destruction, following official procedures. The NSS also confirmed that suspects have been detained and will face legal action.
