Baghdad crime prevention directorate arrests gang in 125 million dinar burglary

BAGHDAD — The Directorate of Crime Prevention announced Friday that it arrested a gang accused of stealing 125 million dinars ($83,333) and valuable items from a home in the Palestine Street area of Baghdad.

In a statement, the directorate described how its teams swiftly responded to a burglary report and tracked down the suspects. “The Baghdad Crime Prevention Directorate’s units dismantled a gang responsible for a daring theft inside a residential home in the Palestine Street area,” the statement read. “The suspects stole over 125 million dinars [around $83,000] and valuable possessions. Upon receiving the report, a specialized task force was formed to track down the perpetrators using advanced technical methods.”

Authorities added that intensive security efforts led to the identification and arrest of the suspects. “During the investigation, the gang members confessed to committing the crime, and their statements were officially documented in court,” the statement said.

A judge has ordered the suspects to be detained under Article 443 of the Penal Code, which addresses theft, as they await further legal proceedings.
