Three students die in car fire on Ramadi highway

ANBAR — Three students from the Saqlawiyah Technical Institute died on Monday after their car overturned and caught fire on the Ramadi highway near Hamidiya. Local residents were unable to rescue the victims, though the driver managed to escape and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Ahmed Ali al-Jubouri, director of public relations for Anbar Traffic, told 964media that excessive speed caused the white Nissan Sunny to overturn, leading to the fatal fire. “The vehicle caught fire, resulting in the deaths of three individuals,” al-Jubouri said. The crash also caused a streetlight pole to collapse, and the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Iraq, Kurdistan Region excluded, recorded 3,019 traffic fatalities in 2023, with driver error cited as the cause in 79% of accidents, according to the Ministry of Planning.
