'The ambiance here is beautiful'
Basra Ramadan festival offers 10 days of shopping, music and culture
BASRA — Basra is celebrating Ramadan with the launch of the annual Ramadan Street Festival at Basra’s Family Park in Al-Maqal. The event, organized by Al-Ufuq Company, runs from the 7th to the 17th of Ramadan and features 10 days of vibrant shopping, live music, and cultural activities.
Local brands, small businesses and vendors from various regions converge at the festival, offering everything from antiques and books to coffee and flowers. Attendees can also enjoy a competitive mheibes championship and a variety of Ramadan-themed contests with prizes.
Samer Nasser, director of park operations, welcomed visitors and highlighted the festival’s diverse offerings. “We wish you all a blessed Ramadan and invite you to the Ramadan Street Festival at Basra’s Family Park,” he told 964media. “The festival includes many brands and small businesses, as well as Ramadan music, a mheibes tournament, competitions, and prizes.”
Visitors praised the festive atmosphere and the wide array of activities. “The ambiance here is beautiful,” said Zahraa Aqeel, a guest at the event. “This is the second time Basra’s Family Park has hosted a shopping festival—the first was for New Year’s, and now it’s for Ramadan. I love the idea of creating a festive space for families, and the variety is great. You can browse flower and book stalls, coffee shops, antiques, Ramadan decorations, and so many different activities.”
The festival has also attracted vendors from different regions, bringing unique products to Basra. “People in Basra love products from Kurdistan, like honey, walnuts, sumac, nuts, and pomegranate molasses. These items are in high demand,” said Abu Hamza Al-Kurdi, a stall owner. “I previously participated in the Basra International Fair, and business was great. Now, at the Ramadan Street Festival, the turnout is strong as well.”
