Police arrest six in Diwaniyah over motorcycle theft gang
DIWANIYAH — Police in Diwaniyah announced Monday the arrest of a six-member gang accused of stealing motorcycles, after tracking their movements and catching them in the act with dismantled bikes in their possession.
In a statement, Diwaniyah Police Command said a unit from the vehicle theft division carried out the operation based on intelligence gathered by informants. “After monitoring their movements and identifying their location, six suspects specializing in motorcycle theft were arrested,” the statement said.
Authorities also seized five motorcycles prepared for dismantling, along with several firearms of various types. Legal procedures were immediately launched, and the suspects will be referred to the relevant court.
Authorities say the suspects were unable to sell the stolen motorcycles as complete vehicles, so they resorted to dismantling them and selling the parts individually as used or scripted components to avoid detection.
