Basra fashion show merges local heritage with modern elegance

BASRA — Fashion designer Suhaila Al-Tamimi unveiled a new collection at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Basra, merging the city’s traditional aesthetics with contemporary European influences.

The Iraqi-born designer, who has spent years living abroad, returned to her hometown to present a series of designs inspired by Basra’s local colors and patterns, reimagined with a modern touch.

“We are delighted to have Suhaila Al-Tamimi here,” said Tamara Al-Attiyah, a heritage enthusiast, in a statement to 964media. “The beauty of this show lies in how it blends the authenticity of Basra with the global influences she has absorbed while living abroad.”

She added, “Bringing these two elements together in a single design is truly beautiful, in my opinion. The local essence adds authenticity to the designs, while the modern touch introduces a new dimension, creating an exceptional blend.”

The event also drew social media influencers promoting local talent. Suha Al-Khatib emphasized the importance of highlighting Basra’s creative scene.

“Being here allows us to share these experiences from Basra to other governorates through our social media platforms,” she said.

Attendees praised the collection’s unique fusion of local and Western styles.

“The displayed pieces were outstanding and perfect for women who want to stand out,” said Fatima Mohammed, calling the show “exceptional.”
