Integrity commission arrests five Najaf airport employees

NAJAF- The Federal Commission of Integrity announced on Sunday, the arrest of five employees at Najaf International Airport who are allegedly involved in the construction of two houses for the former airport director and his deputy.

In a statement, the Media and Government Communication Office of the commission, said that the operation was carried out based on a judicial order. It provided that a team from the Commission’s Investigation Office in Najaf governorate executed the arrest warrant against five suspects working in various departments of Najaf International Airport.

The office explained that, “Suspects committed several violations, including the construction of two houses for the former airport director and his deputy, contrary to regulations”.

The suspects were apprehended under Article 340 of Iraqi Panel Code which states that, “any public official or agent who willfully inflicts damage on the property or interests of the authority for which he works or to which he is associated by virtue of his position or on another’s property that has been entrusted to him is punishable by a term of imprisonment not exceeding seven years or by detention.’’

The statement also provided that the suspects will be presented to the investigating judge “to complete legal procedures and determine the fate of the suspects”.
