Neighbor’s trash fire scorches palm grove and orchard

BABIL, July 26 — A man burning trash in Babil’s Nile district on Wednesday lost control of the blaze, which then destroyed part of a neighboring date palm grove and orchard.

Ahmed Al-Tayyib told 964: “Our neighbor was burning garbage, and the fire quickly spread to our farm because of the dry grass and leftover wheat straw. The strong winds exacerbated the situation.”

An official source from the Civil Defense commented: “We made every effort to control the fire and prevent its spread to nearby farms. Controlling orchard fires in the summer is challenging due to the presence of dry grass and highly flammable hay.”

After continuous efforts, the Civil Defense team managed to control and extinguish the fire.
