Customers love their flavor

First shipment of mangoes from Lebanon arrives in Nasiriyah’s markets

NASIRIYAH, August 23 — A first shipment of mangoes from Lebanon has reached Nasiriyah’s markets as traders on Nile Street note growing demand for the fruit with customers citing their distinctive flavor and health benefits.

Sadiq Mohammed, a fruit vendor, told 964: “We import mangoes from Lebanon and sell them here for 3,000 dinars per kilogram.”

“Customers say that doctors recommend this fruit for those with conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, weakened immunity, as well as hair and skin issues,” he added. “Some shoppers prefer consuming mango juice, while others enjoy eating the fruit after cooling it.”

“Although we usually offer specific varieties of fruits like bananas, pomegranates, oranges, and figs, it is now mango season,” he said.

Abu Mohammed, a shopper, shared with 964: “Mangoes are among the fruits we don’t buy all the time because they are seasonal and rare.”

“We prefer local fruits like figs, dates, persimmons, and apples, as well as imported bananas and cherries. Mangoes, however, can be bought and enjoyed in one specific season.”
