Kurdistan finance minister welcomes federal audit bureau

ERBIL — Awat Sheikh Janab, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Minister of Finance and Economy, declared the region’s openness to any scrutiny and follow-up by the Federal Supervision Bureau. This statement was made as he welcomed a delegation from the bureau in Erbil on Sunday, for the purpose of auditing and reviewing the monthly budget reports and preparing a report for the latter half of the previous year.

In a comprehensive statement issued on February 25, 2024, Janab detailed the visit, noting the delegation included representatives from the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau, Haider Yousef Khalkhal and Alaa Hussein Muhammad.

The meeting, also attended by several directors general of the Kurdistan Regional Financial Supervision Bureau, highlighted the ongoing coordination and collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the joint teams from both the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau and the Kurdistan Region over the past two years.

Janab expressed the ministry’s readiness “to undergo any auditing and monitoring conducted by the joint teams of the Financial Supervision Bureau,” underscoring the ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability. He stressed the importance of the visit as part of the routine activities and audits undertaken by joint teams from both sides, aimed at reviewing monthly budget reports and compiling a comprehensive report for the last six months of the preceding year.

According to the statement, the delegation from the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau expressed their appreciation for the Minister of Finance and the ministry’s departments for their “ongoing cooperation and support” to the joint teams. It says the visitors lauded the ministry’s “consistent willingness” to collaborate and open its doors for audit.

On February 25, 2024, Mr. Awat Sheikh Janab, Minister of Finance and Economy, welcomed a delegation comprising representatives from the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau, namely Mr. Haider Yousef Khalkhal and Mr. Alaa Hussein Muhammad.

During a meeting attended by several directors general of the Kurdistan Regional Financial Supervision Bureau, the Finance Minister emphasized the two-year-long coordination and collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and joint teams from the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau and the Kurdistan Region. He affirmed the readiness of the Ministry, along with all its directorates and treasuries, to undergo any auditing and monitoring conducted by the joint teams of the Financial Supervision Bureau.

The visit of the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau delegation falls within the scope of routine activities and auditing performed by joint teams from both sides. The purpose is to review monthly budget reports and compile a report covering the last six months of the previous year.

The delegation expressed gratitude to the Minister of Finance and the Ministry’s departments for their ongoing cooperation and support extended to the joint teams. They appreciated the consistent willingness of the Ministry to collaborate and open its doors to the teams.
