President Rashid, UK ambassador discuss closer ties

BAGHDAD — President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met Monday with British Ambassador Irfan Siddiq at Baghdad Palace to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, the presidency said.

According to a statement from the Presidency’s media office, the president reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to bolstering its historical ties with the United Kingdom, emphasizing “the importance of continued joint work to serve the higher interests of both friendly peoples and achieve security and stability in the region.”

Siddiq said the United Kingdom values its relationship with Iraq and is “ready to expand the horizons of cooperation and continue coordination on issues of mutual interest,” the statement added.
