Neighborhoods in Akre district employ donkeys for waste collection
AKRE, January 23 — In Akre district, two ancient neighborhoods inaccessible by vehicles are utilizing an unorthodox waste collection regimen – one involving donkeys.
Massoud Haji Diler, director of MRF Company, responsible for the waste collection in Akre municipality, informed 964media that renewed contracts have been established with the owners of the donkeys who are getting a monthly salary to cover the Choste and Gorava neighborhoods.
The new contract spans three years, during which the donkeys and their owners will collaborate with the company to collect refuse. The ‘salary’ for the donkeys and their owners is set at 350,000 dinars each.
Akre Mayor Bilind Reza Zubair told 964media that MRF currently oversees 160 workers within Akre, most of whom in cleaning and waste disposal. They contribute to a workforce of approximately 750-strong across the three districts of Akre, Bardarash, and Sheikhan.
