Sulaymaniyah parks install boulders for aesthetic appeal and to protect lawns

SULAYMANIYAH, January 19 — Residents of Sulaymaniyah may notice boulders appearing in the city’s parks, seemingly dropped from the skies.

The city’s parks directorate, however, says the stones are part of an initiative to decorate green spaces, as well as preserve grassy areas.

Bahroz Salar, Director of the Sulaymaniyah Parks Directorate, explained that officials are trying to address impromptu soccer games that damage lawns in the city’s public green spaces. The boulders, sourced from the mountains, help maintain the parks as recreational spaces, he said.

Salar added that the installations contribute to the overall visual appeal of the parks, creating a picturesque natural setting with a combination of grass, trees, and stones for visitors to enjoy.

With approximately 500 parks in Sulaymaniyah, the Parks Directorate plans to extend the initiative to other parks.
