Anti-drug and violence seminars target high school students in Erbil

ERBIL, January 18 — The Kurdistan Teachers Union is implementing an awareness campaign for high school students on subjects related to the negative effects of drug abuse, violence, depression, and social media usage.

Implemented in collaboration with the Association of Sociologists and Psychologists, the union is running a series of workshops that began in November 2023. The project’s first phase targeted high school students in Erbil, presenting some 100 seminars.

Union president Ahmad Garmiyani informed 964media that the Erbil seminars were successfully concluded within a month, and efforts are underway to resume them in Soran.

“We are pursuing approval from the Soran Education Directorate to extend our seminars across all four districts of the Soran Autonomous Administration,” he affirmed.

Garmiyani outlined plans to replicate the seminars in Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, Garmiyan, and Raparin, adding, “We are waiting for classes to resume in those areas before initiating the seminars.”
