Thunderstorms forecast across central and northern Iraq as autumn temperatures drop

BAGHDAD — The Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology forecast scattered thunderstorms across central and northern Iraq Saturday, with cooler early mornings and nights as autumn weather sets in.

Central and northern governorates will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a chance of scattered thundershowers, the organization said, while southern areas will remain mostly clear to partly cloudy.

Highs in the northern governorates are forecast at 29-31 degrees Celsius (84-88 F), while Baghdad and the Middle Euphrates region will reach around 37 C (99 F).

The south will remain considerably hotter, with temperatures of 42 C (108 F) forecast in Basra and Dhi Qar.

Conditions are expected to turn cloudier and wetter Sunday and Monday, particularly in western parts of central Iraq, where light to moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms are forecast.

Winds will be light to moderate and variable in direction over the two days.
