Kurdish families face eviction in Kirkuk as North Oil Company pursues lawsuit
KIRKUK, January 16 — A group of 70 Kurdish families in Kirkuk’s Arafat neighborhood are facing eviction notices by the North Oil Company (NOC), which has also filed a lawsuit to remove the residents from the area.
Rebar Ibrahim, one of the Arafat residents facing eviction, told 964media, “We have been living in these houses for 20 years. The Kirkuk authorities should solve our problem.”
Meanwhile, Mohammed Fars, another Kurdish resident of the neighborhood, confirmed that a complaint had been filed against them in a Kirkuk court.
NOC senior sources have not issued statements, citing regulations from the Ministry of Oil and deferring all responses to the official ministry spokesperson.
